Ashdod Port Company and the Israel Ports Company conducted a special meeting to commemorate the signing of an agreement to build a seed conveyor belt at Platform 21 with a scope of 220 million shekels. The special meeting to commemorate the agreement took place at Ashdod Port with the attendance of Ashdod Port Company's Chairman of the Board, Orna Hozman Bechor, the company's CEO Yitzchak Blumenthal and CEO of the Israel Ports Company Shlomo Briman.
Minister of Transportation Yisrael Katz approved the establishment of the innovative conveyor belt at Platform 21 in order to increase the scope of seeds transported through the port. Operation of the new conveyor belt will allow to take full advantage of the capacity of the Ashdod granary and will provide an appropriate response to the developments in the seed import sector for many years going forwards. The conveyor belt is expected to become operational during the fourth quarter of 2021. The seed terminal will be built in order to improve service for seed and seed product importers in Israel, to shorten the unloading time and to reduce import costs.
Seeds and seed products are a basic food component for people and animals, who are fed seeds in the dairy, beef, poultry and egg industries. The seed terminal was allocated an area of about 300 meters throughout the length of the port platform, in order to build a designated platform for receiving seed and seed product cargo. We are presently implementing the project phase that entails establishing a seed conveyor belt, which is a delivery system from the platform for about 2.5 km until arrival at the granary in the rear of the port.
Orna Hozman Bechor - "Today is a holiday for Ashdod Port Company and the Israel Ports Company. We arrived at this moment after extensive efforts by both parties and I hope this project will meet the timetables and will serve as a future growth engine for Ashdod Port Company revenues".
Yitzchak Blumenthal- "We arrived at the moment of the signing of the agreement to establish the seed conveyor belt, thanks to the efforts of both parties who recognized that this is an important national economic mission, which will have an impact on future generations".
