15 new and "green" forklifts will improve sevice at Ashdod Port

Ashdod Port welcomed 15 new forklifts purchased at a total cost of about 19 million shekels, for the purpose of making the port's operational processes more efficient. 8 16-ton forklifts were purchased, and they are intended to replace the existing fleet of 12-ton forklifts, as well as 7 clamshell mechanical and electrohydraulic grabs. The clamshell mechanical and electrohydraulic grab is used to transport containers of up to 45 tons in the port areas, and it reaches a height of 5 containers. There are presently about clamshell mechanical and electrohydraulic grabs at the port, with about half of them designated for scrapping and the new equipment will replace them.

The new clamshell mechanical and electrohydraulic grabs are equipped with a system called SOLAS (Safety of life at sea), which weighs the container before and during the transportation and allows to hook up the port's TOS system. The new clamshell mechanical and electrohydraulic grabs have the most advanced safety systems, for maximum protection of the operator and his surroundings. The clamshell mechanical and electrohydraulic grabs meet strict requirements for protecting the environment and limit the greenhouse gas and CO emissions to the lowest possible level, and they also have systems to improve reliability and allow for work to be done even when issues arise.

Along with the clamshell mechanical and electrohydraulic grabs, Ashdod Port Company also purchased 16-ton forklifts, which are intended to replace the 12-ton forklifts, and to significantly improve performance and the scope of possible options. The 16-ton forklifts have unique specifications that are suited for the port's operational needs, and this allows easy and convenient work for steel cylinders, without needing to replace the pin. This significantly improves efficiency in the work process, thanks to the special pitchfork structure. Systems were installed on the pitchforks to reduce pollution alongside advanced firefighting systems.

The forklifts were purchased from the Swedish Kalmar, which supplies solutions for specific equipment to transport heavy cargo for various companies around the world. The cost of each clamshell mechanical and electrohydraulic grab is about 450,000 euros and 200,000 euros for each 16-ton forklift.

Yitzchak Blumenthal, CEO of the Port Company: "The technological improvements in the new forklifts will allow operational improvement in terms of performance and in terms of convenience and employee safety. Upgrading the fleet will increase the availability of the equipment and allow us to continually serve customers, reduce malfunctions and significantly increase output.
