Ashdod Port's emergency team recently conducted an emergency drill for handling a hazardous materials event, in collaboration with the Fire and Rescue Unit. The event took place as part of the annual training program to maintain the operational fitness of Ashdod Port's emergency team and their ability to collaborate with other units. The exercise was planned with full discretion by the Port's Director of Safety and the Fire and Rescue Officer as a surprise scenario.
The scenario involved calling in the emergency team to handle a bromine leak from an ISO tank (liquid shipping tank). The team arrived at the location of the event, performed an immediate risk assessment, as well as series of actions according to the event management protocol, worked with the Security Department to set up roadblocks and called for the assistance of Fire and Rescue and for relevant mechanical equipment. Immediately after the drill, a debriefing was conducted and lessons were learned in order to optimally handle future events.
It was concluded that the drill was extremely successful and the team was praised by the Fire and Rescue Officer, the drill auditor, for functioning in such a professional manner.
Shiko Zana, CEO of Ashdod Port: “ The emergency team of Ashdod Port Company, working with the Fire and Rescue Unit and others, demonstrated great skill and uncompromising professionalism in their response to emergency events. Ashdod Port Company will do all in its power to maintain these capabilities and will take proactive steps to prepare for any emergency situation that may arise".
