The Logistics and Engineering Division includes:
- The construction department
The department consists of 15 employees among them engineers, technicians, plumbers and carpenters. The department operates out of the division’s offices located in the operations building and it owns workshops – a carpentry workshop and a plumbing workshop.
The construction department is responsible for the planning and execution of civil and marine engineering projects. The department is responsible for the maintenance of the land and marine structures, driving tracks and storage areas, crane rails, water, sewage and drainage systems and installations for the increase of water pressure and sewage pumping.
Large projects and major maintenance work is performed by outside contractors whereas the small maintenance jobs are performed by workers of the department.
Among the noticeable projects performed by the department can be listed the construction of the new passenger terminal in warehouse 301 which was done in a very short time table and at a cost of about NIS 11 million. The planning and construction management was done by the construction department in the port.
Equipment Department
The Equipment Department at the Port of Ashdod handles all aspects related to the maintenance of cranes, forklift trucks and other specialized equipment and portable equipment at the Port. In addition, the Department is responsible for running the electricity array at the port. The Department has about 160 employees and operates Malfunction Teams in the field of electricity and mobile equipment during all hours of operation of the Port..
The Equipment Department encompasses several sub-units:
Specialized Equipment Division – The Division is responsible for servicing the various cranes and related equipment used for loading and offloading ships at the Port and provides service at the rear areas of the Port. The servicing of cranes and related equipment includes regular maintenance at 6 specialized workshops employing electricians and mechanics, as well as handling malfunctions and overhauling cranes and related equipment.
Mobile Equipment Division – The Division is responsible for servicing forklift trucks, trailer tugs, mechanical loaders, various trailers used for loading and offloading the goods at the port. The servicing of the mobile equipment includes regular maintenance at 5 workshops employing mechanics, electricians and metalworkers as well as handling malfunctions and initiated maintenance of equipment.
Projects Division – The Division is responsible for the purchase and overhauling of port cranes. Suppliers and subcontractors are involved in these projects and it is the responsibility of the Projects Division to profile the operational needs, to prepare technical specifications, to manage contracts with the contractors, to oversee the quality of the work and ensure compliance with the set standards and to coordinate the implementation thereof in the Port work from the safety and operational aspects.
Equipment Supervisor – A Mechanical Engineer responsible for profiling operational needs, preparing technical specifications and managing the contracts with the winning bidders in all matters related to the purchase of mobile equipment and ancillary equipment (forklift trucks, trailer tugs, mechanical loaders, etc.).
Mechanical Engineering Unit headed by a Port Mechanical Engineer – A team that coordinates the work of contractors in the fields of machinery, mechanics, paint and metalworking with respect to the ongoing repair of the equipment at the Port and to participate in all domains of the projects within his areas of responsibility.
Electrical Engineering Unit headed by a Port Electrical Engineer – The unit is responsible for running the electricity array at the Port, from the electricity input point provided by the electricity producer, including areas of high voltage, low voltage, generators, uninterruptible power supply systems, fire detection systems, etc.
Quartermasters Stores – The Store is responsible for the entire process of working with suppliers of goods to the Port, from the issue of purchase requests and inventory reserving and up to and including receiving of all goods, and is responsible for their distribution to all
Procurement Department
The Procurement Department constitutes a part of the Logistics and Engineering Division and handles all purchasing activities in Israel and abroad with the assistance of the professional departments.
