Operation and Terminals Division

 The following units comprise the Operations Department:

    1. Heavy Equipment Work Management & Assignment (Crane & Equipment Operators).
    2. Operational Work Management & Assignment (Work Managers, Signalmen and Longshoremen).
    3. Planning.
    4. Dockworkers Tools Warehouse.
    5. Damage Assessment Team.
    6. Storage.

      The department has a total of approximately 570 employees.

       The following are the activities for which the Operations Department is responsible by unit:

    • Planning: Maintains continuous contact with ship agents concerning crew assignments (work managers, the quantity and size of the crew on-board and/or in the field, cranes and tools in accordance with the operational line guidelines). Transmits requirements to work bosses.
    • Supervises and assigns the heavy and functional equipment: Receives demands for each switch separately, responds to the extent possible based upon available manpower.
    • Damage Assessment Team: Its task is to photograph and document any damages done to cargo.

    Storage: Its task is to receive or deliver cargo from the warehouses.

  •  Containers Department

    • The units in the Containers Department include the following:
      TOS – TERMINAL OPERATION SYSTEM
      The unit is responsible for the logistical management of all container movement in the harbor, including: Planning the loading and unloading of container ships, planning container storage in the various storage areas, supervising container delivery and acceptance activities on the docks and storage compounds and planning train activities, etc. The unit runs the Computer Automated Terminal Operating System (CATOS), an advanced information system and operates 24 hours a day vis-a-vis terminal customers and operational staff. 

      It is the unit's objective to optimize its utilization of the port's resources to improve customer service and meet the company's container related goals.

    Senior Work Managers: 
    Along the various container docks the Containers Department works with a permanent staff of Senior Work Managers:
    Dockmaster-Docks 22-23, Dockmaster-Docks 7-9, Head Controller (Customs and Train Inspections) - a daily position
    Second Shift Manager - Responsible for all container activities during the port's second shift of the day.
    Third Shift Manager - Responsible for all container activities during the port's third shift of the day.
    Responsible Controllers - Operate in each shift at each terminal and manage the activities in the container storage areas.

  • Liquids and Bulk Facilities

     The units of the Liquids and Bulk Facilities Department include:

    • Control Room Staff (Senior Work Managers).
    • Transport Crew (on ships and in the warehouses).
    • Hold Unloading Crew

      The department has a total of approximately 21 employees.

       The following are the activities for which the Liquids and Bulk Facilities Department is responsible for:


    • Control Room - The task here is to supervise the automated feeding of materials into the ship while ensuring the quantity in each hold.
    • Transport Crew - It is their role to supervise the cargo's regular loading aboard the ship and remove any barriers on the conveyors.

    Hold Unloading Crew - Their task is to unload the train cars in an organized manner into the suitable warehouses.

 

Operational Projects Manager

 In addition to his standard areas of responsibility as they pertain to the various projects and the Operations Department budget, he is responsible for a department containing two units: 

  1. The Advance Unit is responsible for the operations at the New Gate and management of cargo and container transport to/from the port's Forward Gate (the Operational Gate).
    The unit is responsible for linking between the drivers and electronic messages, monitoring the operational data and contact with the various units such as Security, TOS, Warehouses and Operations for the speedy and effective operations of the New Gate compound.
    The unit includes the following sections: 
    Port Parking Lot - Handles the connection and completes the electronic messages pertaining to the entrance/dispatch of containers  and the truck drivers arriving at the port for the aforementioned activity. 
    Scales - Weighing trucks that enter or depart the harbor.

OSC - The Operational Support Center Unit. The unit is involved in assimilating new procedures and use of electronic messages throughout the entire sea side community, assimilate new procedures among internal customers and provide technical support to the port's customers and a variety of internal and external entities, insertion and release of cargo and containers to/from the port.
The unit includes the following sections:
Information/Location Center - Handles the ships' manifests and provides the necessary accompanying documentation for the cargo. 
Documentation - Inspects to determine that the customer has been charged accordingly and inspects claims.
CSC - A support center for the port's customers and assimilation of the direct messaging system (manifest delivery).

 

 

Safety and Contingency Team Unit
 The Port of Ashdod Safety Unit is responsible for the activity and operation of the port's contingency teams, promoting work safety regulations and implementation of the safety policy for the port's personnel and a variety of entities operating in the port's area.

The safety unit has a staff of 8 employees, who deal with all matters pertaining to safety 24 hours a day. Most have undergone training to be certified as safety supervisors and a number of them are safety trustees. All of the port's safety personnel are trained as combat medics, one is a paramedic. The team receives professional back-up from a physician at the port. 


The safety unit ​personnel are equipped with specialized suits, breathing equipment and pressure suits. In the event of a contingency the safety unit is called upon to handle the incident and responsible for neutralizing the danger and preventing its spread.

Safety unit personnel have the authority to cease work in the area of the port in the event of an engineering or safety hazard and members of the safety alignment also serve as part of the port's training apparatus.

During routine periods the safety teams' activity is composed of prevention activities, safety tours and providing training for port personnel.
