The Ashdod Port Company reports a record of containers conveyance during the last quarter of the year 2008 – an increase of 15.2% compared with the same quarter last year. In total 233,905 containers were conveyed during this quarter as compared with 202,955 containers conveyed during the last quarter of the year 2007 in terms of TEU.
During the entire year 2008 an increase occurred of 2.4% in total number of containers, intended for import and export, which totaled about 827,916 containers compared with 808,697 during 2007 in terms of TEU. In 2008, an increase of 19.2% occurred in import of vehicles, totaling 108,396 vehicles.
During the current year a significant decrease of 72.5% occurred in the average operational waiting time of freighters, amounting to 10.2 hours as compared with 37 hours during the corresponding period last year.
According to Shuki Sagis, CEO of Ashdod Port Company, “Ashdod Port Company exhibits a growth in Company data compared with most essential indices summarizing the year 2008. Total cargos intended for import and export during the year 2008, summed up at about 15,399 ton compared with 16,232 ton during the year 2007. Additionally, an increase of 4.8% occurred in the loading of containers in terms of TEU, in the year 2008, compared with the year 2007.
