During the first stage of the project, the system will be operational in the equipment and computerization departments and in the purchasing section for the management of contracts with external suppliers, after the process of adjustment and characterization of work procedures. In the next stage, it is the intention of the Ashdod Port Company to operate the module in all of the Port’s divisions. The implementation and adaptation of the system was performed by EDS ltd.
In July 2006, the Ashdod Port Company launched the ERP system of SAP, which during its first stage included the following areas: human resources, finance and logistics.
According to Yitzhak Blumenthal, Deputy Manager Headquarters and Computerization, “The significant advantage of implementing SRM is the full control the system provides along the entire route of the connection. From the stage of defining the need by the end user, approval of the connection mechanically in the system by an authorized person and to the stage of approving obtaining the service by the system and registry of the supplier’s invoice, processes that until now were managed on paper. Additionally, the module is connected to the company’s database, which enables preparation of uniform reports and total connectivity between all the areas in which the system was implemented.
The operation of the system enables also an automatic control process for the operation of the service procurement procedure in the Company, thus, it is possible to perform purchase of services only in accordance with the procedure.
Blumenthal added, “This move was made possible as a result of the tight cooperation between EDS ltd and the Logistics and Computerization Department in the Port Company and the personal commitment of the employees to the success of the process to the last of the users”.
