International tender for supplying three “Green” unloading facilities for dry bulk ships

Dr. Yehuda Hamelich, manager of business development and quality of the environment at the Ashdod Port Company: “Equipping the Port with “Green” unloading facilities will facilitate fast and efficient off-loading of grain ships and shorten the waiting time for ships while protecting the environment”.

The Ashdod Port Company embarks on an international tender to equip the port with three facilities for unloading grain ships with a budget of tens of millions NIS. The tender is intended for the procurement of three pneumatic unloading facilities that pump the grain from the ships hold directly into the transport trucks. The decision to choose three pneumatic facilities for unloading of grain was reached after thorough examination conducted by the Port Company regarding the system that would provide the best answer for the handling of a great variety of bulks, currently passing through the Port, while protecting, as much as possible, the quality of the environment.

The tender is part of the flag project of the Port for the coming year, the construction of a new grain terminal in the Port with a scope of 153 million NIS. The grain ships will be unloaded in the new Eytan Port and the cargo will be transferred by means of the “Green” unloading facilities via a conveyor with a length of 2.1 kilometers to the Ashdod Silo, which will be expanded and include also a new structure to store grain products.

The project, which constitutes a unique and innovative response by the Ashdod Port to needs, which also exists in other ports, is among the largest investments made in the area environmental quality in the ports, during recent years.

According to Dr. Hamelich, manager of business development and quality of the environment at the Ashdod Port Company, “The Ashdod Port Company places great importance on environmental protection including finding a solution for the unloading of many types of bulk, currently passing thru the gates of the Port. In the past, 100% of the bulk cargos in the Port were loaded and unloaded by a shovel and funnel. According to the unique plan of the Ashdod Port Company, the acquisition of “Green” unloading facilities will provide a response to most cargos currently unloaded by a shovel and funnel”.
