Vice President of the Yang Ming shipping company in Ashdod Port

Gerry Liu, Vice President of the Taiwan-based shipping company Yang Ming, arrived with a professional delegation of senior management from his company for a working visit at Ashdod Port Company. The delegation was hosted by the company's Chairman, Orna Hozman Bechor, and CEO Yitzchak Blumenthal. Yang Ming's delegation included President of the company's Middle East branch Hayden Chang, the company's Director of Logistics in Europe and the Middle East, Jason Ye, and the company's Director of Business Development in the Middle East Ted Wu.

As part of the professional visit Ashdod Port Company and the Taiwanese shipping company are discussing possibilities for expanding collaboration and increasing business activity. Yang Ming is one of the largest shipping companies in the world and it is part of the Alliance shipping alliance. The company is considered one of Ashdod Port's strategic customers and the alliance has one of the most significant lines of ships that call Israel's ports, with megaships carrying over 14,000 containers (TEU).

The two companies plan on increasing activity, with a larger number of containers to be transported by Yang Ming through Ashdod Port's platforms.

Ashdod Port Company's management presented to the delegation its investment plans at the Port, which include, among other things, acquiring a new crane that will allow for quicker and better-quality handling of containers at Pier 23, which is the primary container terminal. They also presented plans to increase the height of two ship-to-shore cranes, to make the pier deeper and to lease additional towboats that will allow for 18,000 TEU ships to deliver containers to the port.

Furthermore, Ashdod Port's Chairman and CEO updated them on the negotiations with the employees, which appear to be getting close to an agreement, with an assessment that after signing an agreement and implementing reform for employees the company will be able to continue to upgrade the level of customer service.

Ashdod Port's Chairman noted that the Port is going to be up for sale and the company is in the process of searching for a strategic investor.
