Logistics and Engineering Division

  The Logistics and Engineering Division includes:

 The construction department

This department is headed by Elias Jeries

The department consists of 15 employees among them engineers, technicians, plumbers and carpenters. The department operates out of the division’s offices located in the operations building and it owns workshops – a carpentry workshop and a plumbing workshop.

The construction department is responsible for the planning and execution of civil and marine engineering projects. The department is responsible for the maintenance of the land and marine structures, driving tracks and storage areas, crane rails, water, sewage and drainage systems and installations for the increase of water pressure and sewage pumping.

Large projects and major maintenance work is performed by outside contractors whereas the small maintenance jobs are performed by workers of the department.

Among the noticeable projects performed by the department can be listed the construction of the new passenger terminal in warehouse 301 which was done in a very short time table and at a cost of about NIS 11 million. The planning and construction management was done by the construction department in the port.

Equipment Department

The department is headed by Danny Gat 

מנופים בנמל אשדודThe equipment department of the port handles all matters relating to the maintenance of the cranes, forklifts, and other specialty equipment and mobile equipment in the port. Additionally, the department is responsible for the management of the electricity system of the port. The department consists of about 130 employees and operates failure crews in the area of electricity and mobile equipment during all hours of the port’s activity.

The equipment department includes several sub-units:

The specialty equipment unit - is responsible for the handling of the various cranes used for the unloading and loading of ships in the port. The treatment of the cranes includes current maintenance in four specialty workshops in which work electricians and mechanics, and handling of failures and reconditioning of the cranes.

The Projects unit - is responsible for the construction and rehabilitation of the large cranes of the port. In those projects are involved suppliers and sub-contractors and it is the responsibility of the unit to handle the contracts with the contractors, supervise the quality of work and meeting the standards set for the jobs and coordinate their activities.

Equipment appointee - is a mechanical engineer responsible for the characterization and procurement of mobile equipment (forklifts, tractors, shuffle tractors etc).

The Port’s mechanical engineer - heads the crew that centralizes the work of contractors in the fields of machines, machinery, painting and locksmith’s work.

Electrical Engineer – is responsible for the management of the electricity system in the Port. The Port of Ashdod receives its electricity supply from the Power Company up to the Port’s gate; the management of the electricity system within the port is the responsibility of the Port of Ashdod.

The purchasing section

The purchasing Section constitutes part of the Logistics and Engineering Division and handles all purchasing activities in Israel and abroad with the assistance of the professional departments.

The purchasing Section is under a process of expanding its activities into the procurement of the services for the Port Company, and its assimilation into the SRM system that constitutes part of the ERP project.

The team of the purchasing Section includes:

  • The head of the department
  • The purchasing person and a buyer – responsible for local purchases;
  • A buyer in charge of purchases abroad;
  • A person responsible for contracts relating to procurement of services; A registrar and a clerk.
