An initiative by the Ashdod Port Company established contact with the IMMRAC Fellowship – The Israel Marine Mammal Research & Assistance Center. This contact is expressed by current daily assistance, as well as, and mainly, the joint writing of tutorial programs for kindergartens and schools. These programs are written and implemented in close cooperation with the Education Administration of the Ashdod Municipality and the Urban Union for Environmental Quality, Yavneh region.
The kindergarten program concentrates on their authorization to obtain “a green stamp of approval”, emphasizing acquaintance with the marine environment in general and the marine mammals in particular. The school program deals with the overall implications of the various connections between the port and the city, allocating special space for issues of environmental quality and protection of the sea in general, and acquaintance with the world of marine mammals in particular.
Currently, all the involved bodies are engaged with the completion and adaptation of the programs that will be operated beginning with the school year 2009-2010. >> To the IMMRAC site
As part of tightening the contacts between the Port and the municipal education system, all of the schools principals in the city (high schools and elementary schools) were guests of the port and received briefings by the chairperson of the board of directors and the Port’s spokesperson. Each school in the city is invited to propose ideas for cooperation with the Port Company. A gift was given to each school – a current aerial photograph of the Ashdod Port.
